Detroit Mercy ASDA: Mission Trip 2017

We are a group of 16 dental students, 2 dentists, and 1 hygienist, all from Detroit Mercy's ASDA chapter, and we’re seeking out your help in helping us provide dental care to a community in Guatemala.

Every year, our group travels abroad to provide dental care to those who don't have access to some of the basic amenities we often take for granted. Many come in with excruciating pain that's hindered their ability to eat and sleep. This August we will be going to Chichicastenango, Guatemala. We expect to see a similar number of patients as we did in years past, over 300 children and adults.

Our team will be providing oral healthcare education, cleanings, fluoride treatments and extractions. We will also be teaching proper oral hygiene so they can use that newly acquired information to teach others in their community, thus empowering themselves and each other.

We, the students, are required to completely fund this trip and provide the supplies necessary for the treatments that will be rendered. Toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss will also be provided to each patient. The costs of all these quickly add up.

This is where you can help us achieve our goal by helping us offset the cost and ultimately, help us run a successful week-long clinic. No matter how small or large, each and every donation will get us closer to our goal and would be greatly appreciated.
